Mary Mary Quite Contrary

Symbolism plays an important role in all aspects of life—and most certainly in dealing with death, which resists all symbolization, reassuring or otherwise.

The mother figure has many faces and represents a variety of beliefs. She is portrayed as loving, compassionate, just, angry, or sad. I choose to depict her with a touch of humor—reminding us never to underestimate her: she can be unpredictable at times.

Techniques: Hand embroidery

Materials used: Antique unfinished linen table runner, vintage wood frame, found objects .
