my catrina, a work in progress

most people assume that southern california doesn’t really have seasons- untrue!  fall is in the air-and my favorite holidays are right around the corner. when my children were growing up, halloween was huge-everyone dressed up, choosing and creating costumes started as early as september. going to the pumpkin patch to find the perfect pumpkin was serious business.  as they got older our festivities included halloween parties, turning the garage into a haunted house & the front yard into a graveyard.  now that my kids are grown- our halloween is fairly sedate. of course i still dress up to give out candy ( some years i still drag out the fog machine for atmosphere.)  traditionally we end the night watching one of my favorite movies- the ghost & mrs muir.

living in los angeless, we are so fortunate to have so many cultural  heritages & traditions.  i am a huge dia de los muertos fan! i find the mexican holiday of honoring & celebrating their dead beautiful .  i will be participating in LA DAY OF THE DEAD- i am creating an altar and also have entering the “life sized catrina” artists challenge. the event is held at the hollywood forever cemetary, the perfect place!   (even if you can’t make dia del los muertos-a trip to the cemetary is must- full of history and wonderfully restored-it’s so LA!   the website is www.ladayofthedead.com
