when my dad died 20 yrs ago-my mother insisted that my sister and i “clean house”. i ended up with a lot-i have a bigger house and -yes-i am a “collector”. i can’t bear to throw away memorabilia-especially anything family related. going through my dad’s war photo albums was fascinating, he was stationed in hawaii, right after pearl harbor. the pictures of hawaii are stunning, there are none that document the devastation of war- just the beautiful and untouched island. he also captured the young men and women serving their country in such a turbulent time- many of these pictures reflect the humor and camaraderie in the face of hardship . even though i have no idea of who these women are-it tells a story . they could be a uso troop, wacs, waves, or nurses-there were over 350,000 women serving during ww11. this photo to me, represents the everlasting strength & humor of women-no matter what the circumstances.
i am donating it to judy howards “god bless america quilt tour” 100% of the profits go to our wounded soldiers.
