oh my-what a month! the grand finale at olvera st was wonderful! it’s hard to say goodbye-but time to move on- “our lady of guadalupe” will be opening at abuelitas in topanga canyon on nov 16th.

my daughter is working in aspen this week-so i have my “fur granchildren”-2 cats and the bunny. violet is the white puff-always in the middle of whatever i’m trying to do. these are 2 of the pieces for the upcoming “made in brazil” event at the ten women gallery in venice.

we had my daughters 30th b day luau last sat-i’m happy to say that it was a huge success! between parties, summer and commitments-it’s a wonder i get anything done. i am behind on projects-but i am ok with that-as i have decided that this is the year of “if it’s meant to be created or finished-it will-if not-so be it”.

i should be updating my web site-instead-(since i had so much fun with my bottlecap chair) i did a mirror.

we have a young crow-a juvenile, spending some time with us. i found her (i don’t really know if it’s a her or him-) in the backyard-sitting on one of the garden benches-as if waiting for a bus. at first glance she appeared to be just hot-but when the dogs went to investigate and greet-instead of flying away-she hopped away. (certainly not fast enough to escape a coyote, raccoon or the feral cats we have). i realized then that she had no flight feathers- she must have either fallen or left her nest too early. her parents were calling to her-they are still so concerned-and it’s been 4 days-i had no idea crow’s were such good parents. i put her in the aviary-she is a voracious eater-scorning the canned cat food but devouring oatmeal, chicken, carne asada, bananas and her favorite-cantaloupe.

i’m hoping she will be able to fly away by next week to join her concerned family-but enjoying her company in the meantime.

i got absolutely nothing done that i should of this weekend-but i’m guilt free. i’ve been in an “exploratory mode” lately-and i’ve decided to indulge myself this summer . i’ll be experimenting with new mediums, methods and materials-not worrying about deadlines, websites and what i “should” be doing.

on sat i took my 13 yr old niece to patricia anders barbie workshop-the final one before her barbie redux show debuts on aug 7th.

what fun! i am definitely making up for lost time- i didn’t play with barbies as a child-but i sure am now!

i recently saw some wonderful fabrics on morgaine le fay’s antique textiles and more blog-and was reminded of some of my “old friends”. as gardening and dogs are a personal passion-this is one of my all time favorites- the victorian square of a boy and his dog. it is circa late 1800, similar to “can you talk” from dr jaynes medicines trade cards. i also love the detail on this vintage silk embroidered piano scarf-the pagoda in the garden.

so many projects and so many marvelous distractions!

betty & oreo were lucky girls today-they got to meet cesar milan! sadly i was down with a very unpleasant bug this weekned-but my husband and wonderful daughter sasha (who has grown up with all our rescued danes) took the girls down to venice beach to meet cesar milan, my hero!

the senora visits the other side-i’m donating this piece to fiberart for a cause-collage mania 2009. this is a wonderful fundraiser for the american cancer society -the auction starts on may 5th. i sewed vintage papers and ephemera to create a patchwork background. the senora’s dress (and her wonderful hat) are original antique paper doll clothes from the ladies home journal, circa early 1900’s. the flowers are cut from antique lace-that i handpainted with fabric paint and beaded.

it’s been a fun week-starting on sunday with the installation of the assemblage window at the gallery. i pledged a “blog a day” (a record for me) this week to share some of the pieces. tomorrow will be the artist reception for “lost & found” at ten women-hope you can join us for a wonderful night of good food, music and great art!
